Impact

Jyoti has dedicated much of his life to creating opportunities that allow young people across Nepal to reach their full potential.

Holy Himalaya Trust

The Holy Himalaya Trust itself is almost entirely funded by Jyoti’s trekking clients - friends from around the world who, during their journeys in Nepal, have developed a deep connection to the land, its people, and its environment. With many hoping to give back after their trips end, Jyoti began the Trust as a means of supporting community development, education, and conservation efforts in a meaningful and sustained way.

This collective commitment was powerfully demonstrated following the 2015 earthquake, when Holy Himalaya Trust raised USD 500,000 in ten days. Of this amount, the great majority went into rebuilding schools in the Dhading district that collapsed during the earthquake. Every contribution was directed toward immediate relief and long-term recovery, including emergency food distribution, medical support, and the construction of earthbag homes designed to be safe, affordable, and resilient.

His Key Initiatives

Creating long-term change through education, sustainability, and community-driven initiatives.

Afterschool Program
Since 2004

Afterschool Program

One of the most impactful initiatives he supports is the Afterschool Program, run through the Holy Himalaya Trust in partnership with KASIN. Designed to support young children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the program provides academic assistance, a safe and supportive learning environment, and small daily snacks after the school day ends. With nine programs currently operating across Nepal, the initiative has significantly reduced school dropout rates, strengthened foundational learning, and encouraged students to pursue higher education.

Montari Sky Camp
Since 2004

Montari Sky Camp

Sustainable livelihoods and supporting ethical, high-quality production in Nepal is another central focus for Jyoti. In his home village of Phulkharka, he founded Montari Sky Camp with the support of his Japanese Saathis. Montari is a scholarship-based residential hostel for high school students studying agriculture, where classroom learning is combined with hands-on farming, environmental stewardship, and practical life skills. The program empowers young people to see agriculture as an innovative, necessary and viable future.

Ethical Agriculture
Since 2004

Ethical Agriculture

Jyoti’s work also extends to ethical agriculture, including coffee cultivation initiatives built on a direct-to-consumer model that ensures farmers receive the full value of their labor. By prioritizing transparency, sustainability, and fair compensation, these projects strengthen local economies while preserving environmental and cultural integrity. Montari Coffee and Chhahari Coffee are single-origin coffees produced in Phulkharka, cultivated at elevations recognized as optimal for premium coffee growing. Increased production capacity will allow for wider distribution in the future.

His Philosophy

Across all of his philanthropic endeavors, Jyoti’s approach remains consistent: community partnership over charity, long-term impact over short-term solutions, and respect over dependency. His work reflects a belief that meaningful change is created when education, livelihoods, and ethical practice grow together—rooted in trust, shared responsibility, and love for the Himalayas.

In Nepal, foreign aid and donated funds are often diluted by bureaucracy, mismanagement, or lack of transparency, resulting in limited impact at the community level. Having witnessed this firsthand, Jyoti has been deliberate in building systems that prioritize transparency and directly benefit those in need. All initiatives supported through the Holy Himalaya Trust include clear documentation of fund use, with regular updates shared publicly. This commitment to transparency builds trust and ensures that contributions are used as intended. For this reason, Jyoti consistently encourages direct, community-based support, where donors can clearly see how their contributions translate into education, livelihoods, housing, or environmental protection. By minimizing intermediaries and maintaining close local oversight, his approach ensures that support reaches the people and places it is meant to serve with lasting impact.
